Someone is repeatedly following or contacting me

General information for New Jersey, New York and Washington, DC · Last updated

Quick answer

Repeated unwanted conduct can require a safety plan and assessment for stalking or other protection.

Do now

Keep a dated log of contacts, locations, witnesses, and reports, when safe. Save original messages and voicemails without engaging to gather more evidence. Explain whether the person knows your routines or has access to weapons.

Local note

NJ VASPA and DC ASO procedures may be relevant where a traditional domestic relationship is absent; NY civil and criminal options need local screening.
